Tips on Preventing Fires

The Pomeroy Fire Company is dedicated to serve YOU the members of the community. The following is a brief listing on some ways to help prevent a fire in and around your home. REMEMBER - IN THE EVENT YOU HAVE A FIRE OR SEE FIRE CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY!

1. Always remain in the kitchen while cooking.
2. Do not place dish towels, paper towels, other items that can catch on fire on stovetops.
3. Never leave BBQ grills, Turkey Fryers, Steamers or Tiki Torches left unattended.
4. Always keep BBQ grills, Turkey Fryers, Steamers or Tiki Torches away at least 10 feet away from house/garage, bushes or trees.
5. Store matches and lighters out of reach of children.
6. Have your chimney and fireplace cleaned annually.
7. Never leave lit candles unattended.
8. Clean your dryer vent and lint trap.
9. Never leave a self-cleaning oven on unattended.
10. Be sure to extinguish all cigarettes.
