Crews from all three stations totaling over 38 personnel attended the training night. Crews were given a personal tour of the new commercial site and auto body business. The building is very large in size and contains hazardous materials due to its nature of work.

Crews completed the tour and discussed different size-up and situations involving the structure located on Lincoln Highway in our run district.

The Consolidated Companies wish the best to Mr. Constable and his Family & employees on their new building. The facility is state of the art and well deserved.  Thank you for your hospitality and allowing us to continue to better serve our businesses in our locals by giving us more knowledge and understanding of your business.

Twenty seven (27) years ago, L.C. Auto Body Inc. opened their garage doors as a grassroots auto collision business in a nearby town.  Owner and operator, Larry Constable, a life long resident of Parkesburg, has fond memories of growing up in the borough.  Recollections of Soap Box Derby races on First Avenue, buying candy from Dee's Grocery, celebrating the Borough's Centennial Birthday and daily mechanical training from his dad, Jack Constable, run deep in his blood. Larry eagerly responded to an opportunity to move the business into Parkesburg in 1985. Today the business is located at 5547 West Lincoln Highway in West Sadsbury Twp., Just west of Routes 30 and 10.

World Trade Center Steel Arrives at Public Training Center

Tuesday, February 7, 2012  On Tuesday February 7 2012, marked another monumental moment in the future of the Chester County Public Safety Training Center. A steel beam from the World Trade Center was delivered to the training center site witch is still under construction.

The steel beam was lifted by Crane high above the training centers academic building, and then lowered through a hole that was cut into the roof area into the front foyer of the academic building; contractor then bolted the beam to a hole or pit made in the floor.

This piece of steel is going to be a memorial at the training center and the main piece of artifacts of many that will be placed throughout the hallways. The beam stands upright and will be surrounded by a glass enclosure the hole or pit in the floor were the steel is bolted down will also be filled with other debris trying to be retrieved for New York. The hole in the roof that was made for the installation will be made into a sky light to allow sunlight to shine over the memorial. Lighting will also be added to the pit area that will shine up the steel beam to light it at night.

New Mile Markers on Route 30 By-pass

Monday, February 6, 2012  PennDOT has recently installed mile markers on the Route 30 Bypass to help both motorists and emergency personnel. The mile markers are positioned every 1/10 mile and are located on berm of both the eastbound and westbound lanes. They are intended to help motorists identify their specific location in the event of an accident or other emergency.

The new mile markers are in addition to the colored emergency detour arrows and detour signage that PennDOT placed on the bypass in the last couple years to assist motorists during highway closures. You may have noticed small, colored detour signs such as "Green Detour" or "Black Detour". These signs have been installed by PennDOT in the event of an emergency highway closure to help police and emergency crews direct traffic from one interchange to the next adjacent interchange.

North-south highways in Chester County (US 1; PA 100 in West Whiteland, West Goshen, and North Coventry; US 202) use red for southbound detours and blue northbound detours. East-west highways (US 30, US 422) are signed with green for eastbound detours and black for westbound detours. The color orange is occasionally used alternatively where detours from two expressways may overlap.

In the event of such an emergency that requires closure of the highway, PennDOT's message boards, media reports, and/or emergency personnel will direct motorists to use the appropriate emergency detour route.

Maps of the detour routes for all expressways are available in PDF format through the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission's Interactive Detour Route Mapping application, known as iDRuM. These maps can be accessed at www.idrum.us.

Gerlach announces Chester County volunteer firefighters, EMS will receive $554,157 federal grant to upgrade pager system

Exton (PA) – A project to upgrade the regional public safety paging system used by Chester County's volunteer fire departments and emergency medical services personnel will receive a $554,157 federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant, Congressman Jim Gerlach (PA-6th District) announced Thursday.

The grant administered by the Department of Homeland Security was awarded to East Brandywine Fire Department, which worked cooperatively with Chester County Fire Services on the grant proposal.

Chester County has agreed to pay $138,539 toward replacement of the regional public safety paging system to comply with the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) narrowband mandate. The project will help ensure reliable coverage and capacity among regional, local, state, and federal first responders.

"Enhancing communication capabilities during emergencies is critical to protecting our first responders and the communities they serve," Gerlach said. "Chester County Fire Services and County Emergency Services deserve a huge amount of credit for cooperating on a project that will help our volunteer first responders to continue providing excellent service and will benefit all of the residents and businesses in the County."

Chester County's fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) protection is provided by 38 fire departments and 2 non-affiliated EMS organizations serving 73 municipalities. The 2,056 firefighters and EMS personnel, most of whom are volunteers, provide valuable emergency response to the County's 498,894 citizens, protecting their lives and properties.

"Every volunteer in Chester County as well as the taxpayers will benefit in some way from this grant, "said East Brandywine Fire Company Chief Joseph Edwards.

"East Brandywine Fire Company was very pleased to be asked to sponsor this grant and looks forward to the new paging system being implemented."

It is only by this coordination and collaboration through a regional application that compliance and interoperability can be realized to serve and benefit a larger community, while also allowing greater purchasing power.

The funding received from AFG will provide a substantial reduction in funds required to attain 100 percent implementation of the integrated countywide emergency communications plan. Specifically, the provided funding will be utilized to purchase pagers and accessories for use by first responders. The Chester County fire departments decided purchasing this communication equipment, so information and services can be exchanged directly and satisfactorily between users enabling them to operate effectively together, addresses both interoperability and compliance issues, and is a highly beneficial use of federal funds.

Raymond Stackhouse, President, Chester County Fire Chiefs Association added: "On behalf of the Chester County Fire Chiefs Association, I would like to thank East Brandywine Fire Company for sponsoring this grant application; and the Chester County Commissioners and the Department of Emergency Services staff, for all of their assistance and support throughout this process. Being a regional project it also took the efforts and cooperation of all Chester County emergency response organizations to make this possible. These funds will be a tremendous help in offsetting the costs of a much needed improvement to the current communications process for all emergency responders in the County."
