CPR/AED Save in Sadsbury Township
Tuesday, February 2, 2010
-
On Tuesday February 2nd, 2010 one day after the annual station CPR re-certification the Pomeroy Fire Company Ambulance along with Sadsbury Fire Company QRS was dispatched to Keystone Helicopter in the shop area for Seizures at 1749 hours.

At 1755 hours Captain 29 (Dalmas) and QRS Lieutenant Weaver (31) arrived to find a man in cardiac arrest and began CPR. CCFR was notified of the change in patient status and was advised to upgrade the response. Sadbury Fire Company was re-dispatched with the medical upgrade assist. Responders conducted CPR and utilized the AED with multiple shocks delivered.

The patient was loaded into the ambulance and transported to the local hospital with resuscitation efforts continuing. Upon clearing the hospital a short time later the patient had re-gained pulses and was breathing on his own.

The Pomeroy Fire Company would like to thank everyone that assisted in the resuscitation efforts. Cases similar to this are rare and it goes to show that early CPR and rapid defibrillation in the community can make a difference when moments count.

Great Job to everyone involved and congratulations of your clinical save.

2010 Training Series Continues with EMS Training
Monday, February 1, 2010
-
On Monday February 1st, 2010 the members of the Pomeroy Fire Company continued their 2010 training series with EMS Training. To start the EMS Training off the members completed refresher training in CPR and AED.

Instructor/Paramedic Scot Kreger and his wife Michelle instructed the class that was given to over 10 members of the company. We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Kreger for instructing the class and a special thanks to his wife Michelle who celebrated a birthday with us and took her time to provide the training to the members of Pomeroy.

The other members who did not participate in the EMS Training  due to already completing the training worked around the station to get cleaned up and organized from the fire that occurred on Saturday. All equipment was checked and inspected so that the company was ready for the next response.

Once again the training series has been a success and we look forward to working with our mutual-aid companies in the near future to get cooperate training moving forward.

Working House Fire in East Fallowfield Twp.
Saturday, January 30, 2010
-
On Saturday January 30th, 2010 the CCFR dispatched the Pomeroy Fire Company along with Westwood, Modena, Parkesburg and Ladder 43 for a house fire at 37 Lyons Lane in East Fallowfield Township at 1111 hours. Multiple calls into the CCFR were received from near by residents  advising heavy fire from the roof area. East Fallowfield police (47PD) arrived on-scene and advised one house fully- involved. Engine 29-5 (4) made the response at 1116 hours with Captain 29 (OIC). Engine 29-5 arrived on-scene and laid the 5’ inch down the driveway. Captain 29 Dalmas assumed Lyons Lane Command and updated the CCFR with a working house fire. Engine 44-5 arrived shortly after and was advised to connect to the 5’ and supply Engine 29-5.

Lyons Lane CP immediately called for a first alarm tanker task force due to that portion of East Fallowfield having no fire hydrants. Ladder 43 arrived a short time later but was unable to get up the street due to the tight streets. All units were given the orders to park along Strasburg Road and have their crew report to the rear of 29-5 where the manpower pool was being setup. Rescue 28 arrived on-scene and assisted with fire suppression.

Tankers from Martins Corner, Cochranville, Atglen, Christiana 5-2 (Lancaster County) and West Bradford were dispatched on the First Alarm Tanker Assignment. Chief 26 assumed the water supply officer and worked to have tankers supply Engine 44-5 at the top of the driveway on Lyons Lane.

Fire Suppression crews made entry into the dwelling but there was extensive fire coming from the dwelling. Lyons Lane Command requested more assistance for fire suppression and a request for additional manpower.  The extreme cold weather made fire firefighting efforts difficult. Manpower pulls were being established so crews could rotate in and out on an on-going basis.

At 1140 hours Lyons Lane Command was taken over by Chief 29 Tribbett, and Captain Dalmas continued with operations. (The Chief's responded from CCDES at training and observed the header at 30 bypass and 100).

Tac 34 was added for Air, Chester County Fire Marshals and Peco were requested along with with two more additional engines from Atglen, one engine from Sadsbury and two additional BLS units one from Westwood and one from Washington Hose Company along with Medic 93.

Red Cross was notified for the family and EMS personnel had rehab set up for the firefighters working in the extreme cold weather. The Ambulance 29-1 and Rescue 28 were used as heating sources for the firefighters to keep warm during re-hab.

One additional engine was requested for more manpower. Oxford (Station 21) was added to the assignment along with Lancaster County Christiana (5-2) for the second tanker for additional manpower.

At 1230 hours Lyons Lane Command placed the situation under control with all units working. At this point a long overhaul process was needed as the size the house contributed to extensive work load, let alone the cold frigid weather that the crews were dealing with.

At 1245 Lyons Lane Command started to release the tankers that were utilized for the water supply, and broke down the water shuttle operation. Manpower was utilized for the extensive overhaul process from all companies working on-scene.

Rescue 27 was requested as the second air-bank to assist with filling bottles, along with Engine 5-1-1 (Bart) and Tanker 4-3 (Gordonville) from Lancaster County that were standing-by in Pomeroy and Westwood Fire Company for man-power.

At 1439 hours units were cleared from the incident and the operation was shutdown. Lyons Lane Command terminated the incident and all units cleared.

Special thanks to Christina Fire Company 5-2 for returning to Station # 29 to assist with getting Station 29 units back into service. Special thank you to the Little Chef Restaurant for providing food and refreshments for the personnel operating on this incident.

The Pomeroy Fire Company would like to thank all mutual-aid companies that assisted for this incident. The cold weather was a factor along with the fast moving snow storm that moved into the area.

On Sunday evening at 1815  hours the Pomeroy Fire Company along with Sadsbury Fire Company and Parkesburg Fire Company for Tower 28 were dispatched to a Chimney fire at 50 Reel Street in Sadbury Township. Supplemental reports advised flames backing out of the wood-stove with details to follow.

Deputy 29 (Taylor) and Chief 31 (Supplee) arrived on-scene to confirm a chimney fire. Chief 29 made the response and arrived on-scene to establish “Reel Street Command”. Engine 31-2 arrived on-scene with Engine 29-1 following. Crews from both stations entered the home and worked to remove the contents from the burning wood-stove within the residence.

Pomeroy Receives Grant from State Fire Commissioners Office
Thursday, January 7, 2010
-
The Pomeroy Fire Company received official notification from the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner's Office that two grants have been awarded to our organization totaling $ 16,305.27 through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.

Under the grant program, $22 million will be allocated for Pennsylvania fire companies and $3 million for ambulance service units. More than 2,700 volunteer organizations took advantage of the $25 million program during past years.

The Pomeroy Fire Company was awarded $ 11,040.90 for our Fire Grant and $5,264.37 for our Ambulance Grant. The Fire Grant will go towards a list of equipment that the Pomeroy Fire Company is in need of  for Engine 29-1 and other Fire Station items much needed for our company. The Ambulance Division grant will go towards debt reduction for Ambulance 29-2 and assist with costs accumulated with operating two Ambulances.

The base award amount this year to a Fire Company was $9,500. However, additional funds were granted to Fire Companies who had Nationally Certified firefighters on their roster. For this, we received additional funds of $ 1,540.90 for our training levels of our providers.

We all know that the Pomeroy Fire Company is in need of the funding assistance from the grant program and it is an asset to our Fire and Ambulance Division’s along with other Fire and Ambulance companies throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Pomeroy Fire Company would like to thank State Fire Commissioner Mann and his outstanding staff for their assistance in providing this program annually to our volunteers and all the Stations throughout the Commonwealth.
